Disability and Community Services

Safe Communities Foundation – a safe community is a place that is attractive to live, work and visit. A safe community is a liveable community, where people can go about their daily activities in an environment without fear, risk of harm or injury. It creates an infrastructure in local communities to increase action by building local partnerships and collaborative relationships.

Community safety is not only about reducing and preventing injury and violence. It is about building strong, cohesive, vibrant, participatory communities. Homes, the roads, public spaces and the workplace are safe for everyone to enjoy. This is exactly what the Safe Communities Foundation New Zealand (SCFNZ) does for community development – through leadership and collaboration, to create safer communities to work, play and live.

Te Roopu Waiora Trust is a unique kaupapa Maori Organisation founded and governed by whanau with physical, sensory and intellectual disabilities. Since it began in 2001, Waiora has evolved and expanded its role of providing disability information and advice to also assisting whanau access Maori communities, providers, agencies and government.

We promote and support the local provision of impartial disability information and referral services

YES Disability Resource Centre (YES) is the hub of information and resources for people with a disability living in North and West Auckland.

With links to over 40 agencies and organisations throughout New Zealand,YES can provide answers to your questions, and connect you to other services. The staff at YES work hard to ensure that people with disabilities are represented at work, at leisure and across society. Where a gap in services exists, we strive to fill it: when our Ambassador Cam Calkoen identified a need for mentoring for young, motivated people, we helped him create Carabiner. When we realised that young people with a disability need to design and deliver their own services. YES also runs a purpose-built community hub in Albany, which is also home to 12 other disability-related services. This is where SRS is located.
